New Testament Abstracts Vol. 53 No. 3

By analyzing the healing accounts in Mark's Gospel, Eibisch, a pastor of the Evangelisch-Methodische Kirche and active in hospital work, discusses their hermeneutical relevance and their challenge to Christian charitable organizations today. After a three-page introduction, he discusses various hermeneutical approaches to the Markan healing narratives. Next he offers exegetical observations on the various healing accounts in Mark's Gospel: 2:1-12; 3:1-6; 6:7-13; 7:31-37; 9:14-29; 10:46-51; and 9:38- 41. Then he draws some hermeneutical conclusions from these analyses, and reflects on the significance of the Markan healing narratives for practice. The study is based on a thesis (Diplomarbeit) prepared at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universitat in Heidelberg in 2007.
